  "VIRGINIA CITY 29"
RESCUED FROM LIVESTOCK SALE

Fallon, NV

Advocates led by the Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund recovered 29 Virginia Range horses that were recently trapped in Virginia City by the Nevada Department of Agriculture and hauled off to Nevada Livestock Marketing in Fallon.

Once again Hidden Valley had to not only bid against kill buyers, but the auction house owner apparently was involved in "pumping up" the bids in what could possibly have been a shilling effort.

After being picked up, the horses were vaccinated, dewormed and blood drawn for "Coggins" tests. They were then relocated to Pleasant Valley where they will be cared for until they are placed with adopters or put in sanctuaries.

VC Resident Lisa Light who had seen these horses for several years
was able to participate in the recovery by driving a pickup and rescue trailer.

Anyone willing to take any of these horses and provide them with suitable homes, or can contribute to the horses' rescue fund, is encouraged to visit the Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund's web site.

Meanwhile you can help try to end this onslaught on Velma "Wild Horse Annie" Johnston's historic herd by contacting the officials listed at the bottom of this page and expressing your views.

  WHAT YOU CAN DO!

Here are actions that you can take to protect the Virginia Range horses. Please remember that these horses fall under the jurisdiction of the Nevada Department of Agriculture and Governor Brian Sandoval. Here is contact information. You are encouraged to express your opinion in this matter. If you call, try to speak with someone in authority. Let's fix this business before more horses go to the kill buyers and we experience another tourism boycott!

The Virginia Range horses are not protected by any federal statute. The involved wild horse groups are just about all that stands between them and the kill buyers. Funds are always needed to protect these horses and to find homes and sanctuary opportunities for those that have been taken off the range.

Every contribution counts. The groups are all staffed by volunteers so the money donated actually goes to pay the expenses for these horses. Please help!
